2015 is upon us | Twiggy’s Guide to New Year’s Resolutions

Aren’t we always searching for answers? Isn’t that really what a “resolution” is? The act of finding an answer or solution to a conflict, problem, etc. The act of resolving something.

I believe in New Year’s Resolutions. I also believe in revisiting those resolutions in July and making mid-year revisions. As humans, we are always trying to better ourselves, but creating resolutions around January 1st can be tough. If you feel overwhelmed, here’s my Guide to making New Year’s Resolutions. Some are on my personal list; others are great to work on all year.

Let it Go
No, I haven’t seen the movie Frozen, but I do think it’s a good mantra. Try to read this great article by MindBodyGreen on 10 things to let go before the end of the year.

Give Back
There is a new wave of philanthropists and it is you and me. Find a charity you love and want to support and set aside some money each year to give to them. Or, find something that makes you feel good and do it on your own. Or, donate your time and talents. Regardless of what you do, giving back is the best way to bring joy to yourself.

Learn to say NO
Moving back to our hometown of Louisville, KY has been tough on me and Booser. In Los Angeles, we had a small group of friends so our schedules were manageable. Now we have both families, new and old friends, work friends, friends of friends and more. Finding time for the two of us often gets put on the back burner. We quickly realized that we don’t have to say “yes” to everything. Saying “no” is easier than it seems. Just make sure you aren’t ALWAYS saying “no”.

Find your passion
Life is too short to not be doing something you love. Maybe you can’t do what you love 24/7, but you should try to carve out some time to take that piano lesson, paint that picture, learn how to cook. Finding time for YOU, the number one person in your life, is important. Stop holding back!

Invest
While investing your money is always a good idea, that’s not what I am talking about. Invest in your sleep. Invest in your friends. Invest in your family. Invest in your living space. Invest in YOU. We oftentimes forget to invest in the things most important to us. Most people, on their deathbeds, don’t talk about what their stock is worth, they talk about the experiences they should have had or the time they wish they could get back with the ones they love. Make every day count!

As we end another year, it’s exciting to think of all the possibilities a new year has in store for us. It’s a clean slate, a time to start fresh. Use it wisely and most of all, have fun. Life is meant to be lived – lived out LOUD!
